Jon Bishop
Jon works as a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist at Starship Child Health. Although originally an import from the UK, he has been proud to call Aoteroa home since 2011. His professional interests include coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease and cystic fibrosis liver disease.
Silvana Campanella
Dr Silvana Campanella is a general paediatrician who trained in South Africa and emigrated with her family to New Zealand in 1994. She lives in Auckland and worked in General paediatrics initially. She subsequently started to work part-time in Whakaruruhau (the Child protection unit based at Starship hospital) in 1999. The child protection unit moved to Puāwaitahi, situated across the road from Starship, at 99 Grafton Rd in November 2002. Puāwaitahi is New Zealand’s first multi-agency service dedicated to child protection and brings together Te Puaruruhau (formerly known as Whakaruruhau), New Zealand Police and Oranga Tamariki under one roof. Silvana currently works 4 days a week in the unit and is also on the afterhours roster.
Helen Evans
Helen is a Paediatric Gastroenterologist at Starship Hospital specialising in liver disease, transplantation and intestinal failure.
Philip Grady
Phil Grady is the Deputy Chief Executive for System Leadership at Oranga Tamariki. Phil holds a range of responsibilities including the Oranga Tamariki Action Plan.
Before joining the Oranga Tamariki senior leadership team in 2022, Phil worked for the Ministry of Health, first as Acting Group Manager: Mental Health Specialist Services, then as Acting Deputy Director General, Mental Health and Addictions. He has also worked for District Health Boards in a range of senior roles.
From 2016-2019, Phil was the CEO of Central Kids: Kindergartens and Early Learning Centres. He has also been the CEO of Odyssey Trust. Phil is a registered nurse and holds a Masters in Business Administration.
Te Aro Moxon
Te Aro Moxon is of Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāi Tahu descent. He graduated from Auckland University medical training in 2009. Te Aro is both a general paediatrician and community child health physician, working at Waikato Hospital.
Te Aro is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland working for Te Kupenga Hauora Māori and the Department of Paediatrics. In 2019 Te Aro was awarded RACP Trainee of the Year. In 2021 he completed a Master of Science in Global Health Science and Epidemiology at the University of Oxford, supported by the UK government as a Chevening Scholar.
Outside of medicine, Te Aro is a graduate of Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo - The Institute of Excellence in the Māori language. He was recently included as one of Te Rau Ora’s 100 Māori Leaders. He will share a presentation about mana-enhancing communication where there are child protection concerns.
Derek Senior
Derek Senior is a Policy Manager at Manatū Hauora (Ministry of Health) with responsibility for developing and co-ordinating policy advice on child and youth health, as well as wider issues involving the social determinants of health and the interface between the health system and other parts of the social sector. Derek has a particular interest in how children and young people who come into contact with the care and protection system are supported, noting that these children have some of the worst health and social outcomes.
Derek has worked in policy for 18 years, and has been with the Ministry for four years. Prior to working in health policy Derek worked in policy roles across a range of agencies covering welfare, social development, education, and the justice system.
