MASTER OF CEREMONIES

Te Radar

With a string of awards, including the country’s highest accolades for television and comedy, Te Radar is one of New Zealand’s most recognised entertainers and presenters. He has an extensive career in documentary making, writing, stage and screen directing, as well as being a celebrated comedian and satirist.  

Te Radar appears by arrangement with Johnson & Laird Management.


Some of the remarkable adventures Te Radar has embarked on include diving with sharks, plunging into the frozen Ross Sea, interviewing Yassar Arafat under the watchful eye of gun-toting Palestinian soldiers, and being stung by a scorpion (in a rather awkward place). His passion for and knowledge of the untold stories of New Zealand history inspired his critically-acclaimed 2017 TVNZ series Te Radar's chequered Past.

A natural raconteur, Te Radar is a sought-after keynote speaker, awards host, MC and moderator. His diverse talents mean he can host events across a wide range of sectors; agricultural, engineering, science, arts, media, medical, environmental, and academic–his versatility is astonishing. The ideal host for panel discussions, onstage interviews and all-round MC duties, Te Radar’s performance is always erudite, witty, and well-informed, no matter the forum or format.

KEYNOTE PRESENTERS

Brian Motherway

Brian Motherway is Head of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Inclusive Transitions and is based in Paris. He oversees analytical and outreach programmes supporting energy efficiency globally. 

Brian also leads IEA’s work with governments ensuring all clean energy transitions are people-centred and inclusive, covering analysis and best practice on topics such as skills, inclusion and fairness in clean energy policies. Prior to joining the IEA Brian was Chief Executive of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in engineering and a PhD in sociology.


Annette L. Nazareth

Annette Nazareth is the Chair of the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (Integrity Council), an independent governance body for the voluntary carbon market. Annette devotes significant attention to virtually all aspects of the body’s workstreams, and represents the Integrity Council in venues across the globe.

Annette has decades of experience in financial services regulation and corporate governance. She currently serves as Senior Counsel at the global law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell, having previously served as a Partner of the firm and the head of the Washington DC office. Annette also led the firm’s Trading and Markets practice within the Financial Institutions Group. She was a key player in U.S. financial services regulation for nearly a decade, most notably as a Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and as the SEC’s Director of the Division of Trading and Markets.

Al Yates

Al Yates is the CEO and co-founder of Ecotricity, the only Toitū climate positive certified 100% Renewable electricity provider.  Ecotricity supplies corporates, businesses and households of all sizes and has roughly 30 times the national average of customers generating solar. Al Yates founded Wind Farm Group in 2003 with the mission of developing wind farms in New Zealand. Al is a co-founder of Snowplanet, and has served on the boards of ChargeNet, NZWEA and MDAG.

Philip Mauger 

Mayor of Christchurch

Philip Mauger is a lifelong resident of Christchurch, serving on the Christchurch City Council since 2019. He was elected Mayor in 2022.

Prior to Council, he led a third-generation contracting company building subdivisions, roads, and drains across the city. He also has a strong history of supporting community organisations.

As Mayor, Philip is focused on making Christchurch the best place to live, work, invest and play in New Zealand.


Hon Simon Watts

Minister of Climate Change and Revenue

Simon Watts was elected as the Member of Parliament for North Shore in the 2020 election. He is the Minister of Climate Change and Minister of Revenue.

Simon grew up in the Waikato, where his family were farmers and orchardists. He is married, has two sons, and lives on the North Shore with his family.


He studied Accounting and Finance at Waikato University and worked in investment banking in Asia, Europe and the United Kingdom. He has worked for one of the world's largest investment banks, the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), where he held several management roles during and in the aftermath of the Global Financial Crisis. Simon has also completed a Health Sciences degree at Auckland University of Technology. He continues to volunteer with St John as an ambulance officer and is a registered Paramedic alongside his duties as a Member of Parliament.


Deni Archer

Deni Archer leads ESP's Carbon Team, boasts a distinguished career in environmental management, sustainability reporting, and IT across global capitals like London, Dublin, and Cape Town. She's guided numerous NZ organizations on GHG emission data and sustainability reporting, leveraging her international experience with South Africa's listed companies on non-financial disclosures. Deni holds a Bachelor's in Environmental Science, with certifications in Project Management and Carbon Advisory.

Marcus Baker

Marcus Baker is lead designer and managing director at Apricus Eco.

Since 2004, Marcus has been delivering advice and practical solutions for energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable practices in NZ and UK. Apricus Eco are decarbonising NZ commercial buildings and homes using natural refrigerant hot water heat pumps, pellet boilers and solar thermal systems. The company specialises in central heating and domestic hot water systems.

Nigel Barbour

Nigel was appointed Orion Group Chief Executive in July 2021. He leads the Orion Group which comprises Orion’s central Canterbury electricity distribution business and wholly owned subsidiary, Connetics.

Prior to this, Nigel was Chief Executive of Powerco, based in New Plymouth. He was with Powerco for 19 years in a range of executive management positions including nine as CEO.

Nigel has an economics and legal background and previously held roles with Transpower and Bank of New Zealand.

Jack Bisset

Jack is the Policy Manager in the sustainability team at the XRB. Jack is working to develop New Zealand’s climate-related disclosure standards for the largest ~200 companies and financial institutions, with a focus on the strategy, scenario analysis and transition planning aspects of the standards. Jack has been working in climate and environmental policy for over 5 years, including work on the economics of transition, sustainable land use modelling, emissions trading, policy innovation and sustainable finance. Jack was previously at the Ministry for the Environment in the Office of the Chief Executive working across a wide range of sustainability issues.

Jason Bretherton

Jason Bretherton is an Electrical Engineer with a Post Graduate Diploma in Management. He has worked as an engineering consultant in the building services industry in New Zealand and overseas for more than 25 years. In his current role as a Technical Director at WSP based in Christchurch, Jason provides technical leadership, high level concept design advice and undertakes critical review across a diverse range of projects. He has a passion for energy efficiency and sustainability and strives to deliver a high degree of integration by applying a whole-of-life approach. Jason joined the CEP Board in September 2021 and appointed Vice Chair in July 2023.

Richard Briggs

Richard joined EECA in 2014 and has held a number of management positions – including in Business and Transport. He was appointed to Group Manager in 2022.

The Delivery and Partnerships Group has a focus on market engagement across business and transport, products and industry partnerships, and the delivery of EECA’s transport and Warmer Kiwi Homes programmes.

Prior to EECA, Richard had an extensive career in IT & telecommunications and has over 30 years’ experience building partnerships and managing third party relationships in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands.

Zoe Burkitt

Zoe is a sustainability professional with 25 years of experience in sustainability, environmental management and carbon accounting, she is Head of Science and Advisory Delivery at Toitū.

Zoe has supported a range of clients to reap the benefits of a strategic approach to sustainability, including application of frameworks and tools for measuring, managing and minimising impacts on the environment. Most recently she has worked with KiwiRail, Waka Kotahi, Lyttelton Port Company and others on carbon programmes including defining scope 3 emissions, supply chain approaches to decarbonisation and life cycle assessments.

Zoe has a Masters in Professional Science, focussed on science communication and climate sciences.

Mike Casey

Mike Casey is an orchardist in Central Otago who believes he has created the world’s first fully electric farm. He has electrified 21 machines on his farm and in his home and powers them through New Zealand’s national grid, as well as through his on-farm renewable system.

Peter Cox

Peter is a recognised leader in the gas, CCUS and emerging Hydrogen industry and is the global Worley Onshore Upstream and Midstream Vice President.  He is a past president and Board member of the Australian Pipelines & Gas Association and currently a Director of the Future Fuels Cooperative Research Centre.   He has been responsible for the successful completion major midstream and upstream projects.

Priyani de Silva-Currie

Priyani de Silva-Currie and her parents arrived in New Zealand nearly 50 years ago as a refugee from war torn Sri Lanka, now proudly calls New Zealand home. Priyani has 30 years’ experience as an infrastructure asset manager specializing in strategic asset management for central and local government, and is a Technical Fellow at Beca.  Priyani advocates for and sees the future as integrated and embedded asset management and climate adaptation supporting community outcomes and sustainable environments.

Priyani is a Past President and Life Member of Āpōpō, and former Chairperson and Life Member of Carbon and Energy Professionals (CEP).

Delphine David

Delphine strongly believes that businesses can drive positive change, and strives to empower them to achieve their best. After leading the Business Development team at Toitū Envirocare, she joined BraveTrace in August 2023 to put her passion into the acceleration of New Zealand’s renewable energy transition. Delphine’s role is to partner with corporate energy users for impactful renewable energy procurement and help them successfully navigate the market. Delphine fell in love with Aotearoa in 2001 and has made Tāmaki Makaurau her home since then.

Adrian Dickison

Adrian Dickison is a chemical engineer with over 35 years’ experience. Adrian is Beca’s subject matter expert in Industrial Refrigeration and is heavily involved in refrigeration design, specification, and process safety. Adrian is also founder of Maestro, Beca’s continuous refrigeration optimisation and asset condition product. Prior to Beca, Adrian was a refrigeration system designer with York Process Systems (now Johnson Controls) at their Nantes, France facility.

Ben Gerritsen

Ben joined Clarus as General Manager, Customer and Regulatory in July 2016 and is responsible for the company’s strategy and engagement on commercial opportunities and public policy issues. Ben is focused on exploring how electricity and gas infrastructure can help Aotearoa’s transition to a lower carbon economy, with a particular focus on biogas, hydrogen and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).

Ross Godkin holds the pivotal role of National Manufacturing Manager at Road Science, where he oversees a network of bitumen plants throughout New Zealand. His primary focus is on maintaining impeccable product quality standards and fostering secure and sustainable work environments.

With an illustrious career background, Ross has accumulated valuable experience with renowned industry giants such as Du Pont, ICI, and Orica. His extensive accomplishments underscore his deep expertise in manufacturing.

Recognised for his dedication to sustainability, Ross received the Sustainability Champion Runner-Up award at the 2012 New Zealand Sustainability Business Awards. This accolade commends his innovative initiatives at the Mount Maunganui bitumen plant, which have set new industry benchmarks in sustainable manufacturing practices. In more recent times Ross has championed the Road Science Decarbonisation program which in 2021 delivered the first Bulk Bitumen tank over 5000 tonnes heated by solely by electricity at our Lyttelton Bitumen Plant.

Ross's unyielding commitment to excellence is a driving force that prompts continuous introspection among him and his colleagues. They continually ponder the question, "What does excellence look like?" Shaun Goldsbury 

Shaun Goldsbury is BraveTrace new CEO. With 15 years of experience in the energy industry, including roles at Trust Power and Genesis Energy - where he served as Chief Trading Officer in his most recent tenure, Shaun brings a wealth of expertise on electricity, gas, coal, LPG and carbon markets.

Helen Holyoak

I am a qualified professional in the construction industry with senior leadership experience and expertise in construction cost management. As part of a career pivot I have commenced study towards a Masters of Sustainable Practices alongside formally teaching my profession as a quantity surveyor to others. I remain passionate about working to the benefit of the construction sector and am highly motivated to use my industry understanding, new knowledge and teaching skills to make a real difference embedding sustainable principles in the sector with a focus on achieving net zero.

Michael Jefferson

Michael has worked in the sustainable energy sector for 20 years across New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and the UK.  Within Enel X, Michael has experience across all functions of the business, building its 300+MW Virtual Power Plants with customers and monetising them in the various energy markets.  He now oversees the development of Enel X-owned “behind-the-meter” batteries and C&I heat pump and thermal storage products.

Christian Jirkowsky

Christian Jirkowsky is Polytechnik Biomass Energy’s Managing Director, based in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Christian has over thirty years of experience in areas such as heat and power generation via wood, biomass and fossil fuels, emission control and heat recovery systems in markets such as Europe, Asia, Oceania and Americas. 

Due to his direct involvement in over 600 bioenergy plants, he is recognised as one of the leading experts in the Bioenergy Industry in Australasia.

Angus Judge

Angus Judge is the General Manager of Operations for Genesis Energy’s three hydro power schemes at Tekapo, Waikaremoana and Tongariro, and its thermal power station at Huntly.  Angus has been in the energy sector for 18 years with experience managing capital refurbishment and replacement programmes, asset and environmental management, and process safety.

Ralf Kessel

Ralf worked as a project architect at several Berlin based practices for over a decade, during which time he was involved with a series of large-scale developments, apartment designs, hotel projects and institutional facilities.

Ralf then spent five years in Ireland, where as part of a prestigious Dublin based practice, he worked on commercial and medium-rise residential projects.

Ralf's list of achievements includes experience with a range of aesthetic and practical concrete applications, including precast panels, in-situ floor slabs and concrete masonry.

Ralf joined the Cement & Concrete Association of NZ in (CCANZ) 2009 as a Project Manager to advise on and teach architectural concrete, developing concrete-based solutions for the New Zealand Building Code, as well as compiling best practice architectural advice for residential and commercial concrete design and construction.

Ralf has recently been responsible for writing the Code of Practice for Weathertight Concrete and Concrete Masonry Construction and the Apartment Design Guide, and is also heavily involved with the delivery of weathertight and concrete masonry training.

Ivan Luketina

Ivan Luketina is a relative newcomer to the electricity industry, having joined Orion in 2022 from a previous career in policy and strategy roles.

At Orion he has led the establishment of Orion’s Future Energy Scenarios and energy transition modelling capability. Orion's future energy scenarios take into account the divergent pathways for the energy sectors decarbonisation journey and models the potential changes in electricity demand on Orion’s network for each.

Ivan’s background is well suited to analysing complex problems and significant change, having previously worked as a government advisor on policy and strategy in climate change, freshwater, and COVID-19.

Kanchana Marasinghe

Kanchana joined EECA in May 2018 as a Senior Account Manager. He has worked extensively with some of New Zealand’s largest energy users, to develop and support the implementation of decarbonisation pathways, which has resulted in delivering large energy & emission reductions.

He has over 19 years of industry experience in the energy field and has worked in a variety of roles including Energy Efficiency Champion at Fonterra Group, and as the Southern Operation and Project Manager – Outer Island Electrification Projects in Maldives. Kanchana holds a Master’s degree in Energy and Project Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical & Process Engineering. Kanchana is also a CEM (Certified Energy Manager) and a CMVP (Certified Measurement & Verification Professional) from the Association of Energy Engineers – United States.

Matt Marshall

Matt is a Chemical and Process Engineer with over 6 years’ consulting experience within the New Zealand manufacturing sector. During this time, he has completed numerous business cases for the installation and integration of high temperature heat pumps, and is currently involved in the design and installation of a 4 MW system in Southland.

Sarah McHardy

Sarah is the customer champion at Lodestone Energy. Her drive for customer centricity has been gained over her more than 20 years in the energy industry. Originally at Genesis where she worked across various roles in the Retail part of the business and more recently at Vector Metering (now Bluecurrent) where she was part of the team who set up Vector Metering in Australia and growing the business to a successful partial sale in 2023. Joining Lodestone Energy in July 2023 she has brought her passion for delivering customer centric solutions across utility scale solar where she is responsible for Sales and Marketing.

Ellery Peters

Ellery Peters is a Chemical and Process Engineer who obtained his minor in Energy Processing Technologies at the University of Canterbury. He currently works as an Energy Engineer at Vegetables NZ, tasked with supporting the decarbonisation of covered crop growers by providing knowledge and resources so growers can make the best decisions possible. 

This role is supported by EECA and works closely with the EECA team to deliver support to the industry. Before Vegetables NZ, Ellery worked at McCain Foods in Timaru as an Environmental Graduate, tasked with managing the wastewater treatment system and project managing upgrades to the water treatment system.

Mike Pharo

Mike Pharo as the proud father of two bubbly children, cares deeply about how our choices today will affect future generations. He is a Chemical and Process Engineer with over 10 years’ experience working in essential industries such as power generation, fertiliser manufacturing, and wood product manufacturing. 

Mike uses his expertise in mass and energy balance, techno-economic analysis, and greenhouse gas impact assessment to support clients with the challenging decisions they face in today’s complex and fast evolving world.

Jonathan Pooch

Jonathan Pooch is Founder and Managing Director of DETA, NZs largest specialist decarbonisation consultancy. DETA supports industrial and commercial clients throughout Australasia to develop and deliver sustainability strategy to ensure improvement goals are realised. Recently Jonathan attended COP28 and is going share and host the discussion on lessons learned about best practice for high temperature heat pump in the New Zealand market.

Josephine Rudkin-Binks

Josephine has a passion for helping businesses decarbonise. She spent 12 years helping grow Toitū Envirocare before joining Ecotricity where she now supports the uptake of renewable energy and new renewables.

In her first role in New Zealand over 15 years ago, Josephine lead AUT – The Conference Centre to victory at SBN’s emerging sustainable business award. This created her passion and started her sustainability journey. She has been a judge for the NZ tourism Aotearoa awards (environmental and sustainability categories) and is a current board member of the Parnell Business Association, where inevitably she is the sustainability champion! A self-confessed Pilates addict, she’s also keen on the outdoors, whether it is cycling, sea swimming, jogging or dog walking Jake her labradoodle.

Peter Sandston

Peter is the Commercial Lead for the Future Fuels team at Clarus, delivering renewable gas and electricity projects in New Zealand, including pipeline renewable natural gas and hydrogen. Peter closed New Zealand’s first biomethane-to-pipeline upgrading project with Ecogas at Reporoa and is leading the commercial and regulatory development of hydrogen trials on behalf of the five North Island natural gas networks.

Ganesh Sankar 

Ganesh Sankar is an Interim Regional Energy Manager – Northern, at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, bringing with him 13 years of experience in healthcare infrastructure, FMCG, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. 

As a registered mechanical engineer, Ganesh is currently spearheading the ambitious decarbonisation efforts for one of New Zealand's largest hospital districts, Counties Manukau.

Ganesh leads the energy team focused on implementing a range of energy efficiency and fuel transition projects to achieve notable reduction in Counties Manukau and wider Northern Region’s emission profile by the year 2040.

Ganesh is also part of Te Whatu Ora’s $100M Energy Transition Programme working group established to achieve Te Pae Tata strategic objective of 25% reduction across both category 1 and 2 emissions by 2025 equating to 23,000 tCo2.

Keith Scoles 

Keith Scoles has senior technical management experience in the electricity industry, particularly in renewable energy. He has developed business, strategic and engineering management experience gained within the electricity industry over a 40 year career in projects in NZ and internationally.

He has worked directly or indirectly for a number of key NZ electricity industry participants and their predecessors in the generation, transmission and distribution sectors with technical hands on, consultancy or direct employment roles and has had the opportunity to involved in a number of leading edge projects in the generation sector.

Keith is highly regarded for his experience working on complex and difficult to deliver renewable projects in a complex environment and has a broad library of skills to complement clients and others working on technical or strategic project outcomes.

Tim Sparks

Tim leads the Authority's Networking Pricing team, responsible for improving price signals for the distribution and transmission segments of the electricity supply chain. Tim’s work is aimed at facilitating lowest overall cost to consumers, including promoting efficient investment in and operation of energy technology and demand-side flexibility. Tim has previously worked in telecommunications, having held roles at Chorus and Optus, with a focus on economic regulation.

Cameron Stanley

Cameron is a Senior Engineer in the DETA Optimisation team and specialises in industrial energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects. He has more than 15 years’ experience in engineering research and consulting in the energy efficiency and clean energy sectors. Prior to joining DETA in 2022 Cameron was a lecturer in energy efficiency and demand management at RMIT University in Melbourne.

Franziska Teichmann

Franziska leads a team that is supporting the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in all aspects of energy cooperation with Australia and New Zealand. She is implementing the Australia-Germany Energy Partnership and the New Zealand-Germany Energy Dialogue. Before joining adelphi in 2019, Franziska worked as a seconded policy officer in the German Federal Ministry for the Environment and Nature Conservation on bilateral cooperation. Between 2013 and 2016, she worked as a management consultant in the energy sector.

Jack Timings

Jack Timings is a Senior Process Engineer in Beca’s Industrial business based in Tamaki Makaurau, New Zealand. Jack is passionate about helping industries transition towards sustainable, low-carbon operations and embrace circular principles in their business models. He works closely with industry and government stakeholders on decarbonisation, renewable energy and organic waste management projects and policy.

Karen Tipper

Karen is the Technical Director within the assurance team at the XRB. She works to develop and issue assurance standards for New Zealand. This includes the development of the recently issued Greenhouse Gas Disclosures Assurance Standard. Karen joined the XRB in February 2023. She has been working in the carbon and sustainability measurement and assurance environment for over 12 years and has over 20 years of practical experience in audit, assurance and verification, with a particular focus in greenhouse gas measurement and assurance.

Dan Tomlinson

Dan Tomlinson brings a rich background in energy, sustainability, and IT, with an MBA from Cambridge and a bachelor’s from Harvard in Environmental Science and Public Policy. After an early international career in solar technology commercialization and deployment, Dan moved to New Zealand where he has spent the last five years spearheading the growth of BraveGen's carbon accounting software in New Zealand and now on a global scale, aiding clients and partners in integrating sustainability into business performance.

Aaron Webb

Aaron Webb is a Director in PwC Consulting and helps lead the firm's energy practice. He has 20 years experience advising clients across the energy value chain on strategy development, investment evaluation and transactions, policy and regulation, market studies, and pricing. 

 In recent years, his focus has been on the energy transition and the development of renewable generation and future fuels. Aaron has led a number of energy industry studies in future energy including the offshore wind national impact study and development of the hydrogen regulatory pathways study that supported the Government's hydrogen roadmap.

Hilary West-Reeve

Hilary West-Reeve is Executive Director and Chief Sustainability Officer of Phoenix Recycling Group. A commercial architect for 30-years, Hilary’s career has evolved to focus on the circular economy of recycled materials as renewable resources for sustainable manufacturing and decarbonisation.  Hilary is a NZGBC Board member, an Industry Advisory Group (IAG) committee member for HERA’s research project ‘Circular Design for a changing environment: a design framework to reduce construction waste, lifecycle embodied carbon, and to enhance the circular economy for construction materials, and an Industry Advisory Panel member for University of Auckland’s Circular Innovations (CIRCUIT) Research Centre.
