We will travel 50km west from Hamilton to visit the coastal township of Whāingaroa | Raglan. The town is widely for its eco-friendly locals, historic and contemporary Māori history, world-famous left-hand surf break and examples of sustainable development- in tourism, energy, business, housing, environmental restoration and product stewardship. We will visit Xtreme Zero Waste (Home - Xtreme Zero Waste - Whaingaroa, New Zealand) which has been working hard for the last 22 years to achieve a 75-80% diversion of waste from landfill and to create a local circular economy. We will also take in other local exemplars of sustainable development in the Whāingaroa community and on our journey to/from the coast.
